Supplied new in 1955 by the Redhill Motorcycle works, Redhill in Surrey, the Velocette MSS 500 was a great sporting single of the time. A contemporary road test in the Motorcycling magazine in May 1955 talked of its’ amazing pull and mid-range performance.
The MSS is a high camshaft sporting 500 single but with a degree of civility that made the model very pleasing to ride indeed.
This particular example has a huge history file. It has completely been restored and the detailed journal that goes with the machine makes for very interesting reading.
There are also many pictures of the restoration process that are stored on a CD that again comes with the bike.
Not only is the bike in wonderful condition, it also rides very well too and I did find the electric start quite a bonus.
The cold starting procedure was simple. Free the clutch, flood the carburettor, pull into the de-compressor and turn the motor over.
As soon as you let out the de-compression lever off she goes! What a wonderful thing!
The Alton starter motor assembly alone cost well over £2500 and is quite a boon on a 500 single especially as you get a little older!
Naturally the electrics have been converted to 12v and I welcome you to find a better example at this is price, a very reasonable £9,875.00
